Day Four: Boston

We woke up in Boston this morning. Actually, I really overslept, right though the alarm this morning. We were supposed to be up and ready to go by 8:30 but I didn't even wake up until 8:30. We quickly ate breakfast in the cabin and then headed out to catch our bus for our walking tour through Beacon Hills to the Cheers Bar. The brochure said it was an easy walk, but I was worn out when it was over. It was about 2 1/2 miles, up and down hills at a very brisk pace. We also had a duck tour scheduled, but missed it. The traffic is really bad in the area and we got back about 15 minutes too late. Oh, well. What can you do.
Here are the photos for today.

This was the view out of our cabin door/veranda this morning. Boston is a beautiful city and I want to come back here for a week or so. There is so much history.

This was the best of both worlds. A reflection of one of the oldest Angelican churches in the tallest building. It's the John Hancock building with 60 floors.

I was taking photos of this, because of the hare, then the tour guide said it was the hare and the tortoise representing the Boston Marathon.
Another view of the city from our walking tour. I'm not sure what church it is, but it was beautiful.

The amazing thing about this church is that it is a Christian church, but the building was too large for their congregation so they share half and half with a Jewish Synagogue. There were both signs on the front door. I thought that was interesting.

Upon entering Boston Gardens there was this statue of George Washington. The guide told us that the average height of most people in those days was 4'6' to 5'. I commented I was born in the wrong century. George Washington's height was one of the characteristics the people loved about him, he was over 6 feet.

Boston Gardens was absolutely beautiful. I could see myself just sitting enjoying the scenery, watching the people go by.

Another cityscape view of more of the business district.

We finally walked and walked when we turned the corner and saw the sign for the Cheers Bar.

Kevin sitting at the bar in Norm's favorite spot. It was kind of early so we had tea instead of a beer.

Kevin, sharing a moment with Norm. There was a better cut-out upstairs, but we didn't want to wait in line.

We ate lunch at the Cheers Bar and of course we had to have Boston Baked Beans. They were pretty good, but just tasted like pork and beans with wieners to me.

Walking back the guide pointed out this building where the King of England's representatives "ruled" Boston. Notice the King's Lion from the royal crest on the left side of the building. This is also the site of the Boston Massacre.

There were more photos from our day, but the Internet is so slow tonight I am going to call it a night. We have an early morning tomorrow and will be in Bar Harbor Maine. After that we are leaving for Canada. Thanks for all the comments. We love hearing from you all and wish you were with us more than in spirit.

I'm so happy you are getting to visit all the historical sites. It makes it seem a lot more real than just reading about it. I would love to do it for genealogical reasons, but would have to start in Baltimore, Md. Love,Mom

Who are these strange ad people posting on your blog? So weird I must say. Oh well, at least I get to comment.

Boston... wow! What is a duck tour? You get to see special East coast ducks? Oh well, no loss I'm sure.

Your pictures are so neat. You should have a booth in the gallery and show off all of your amazing adventure.

So Boston Baked Beans are lame?

The boys(B&E) are spending the night tonight. I hope to do snowcones with our snowcone machine. (we've never had a chance to use it).

Are you on tours at every port or do you get to play by yourself. I don't remember doing many tours. I bet you learn alot more than wandering the streets.

Do you have a day at sea where you stay on the ship? Sounds like you have been very busy.

I love looking forward to your posting. Thank you!
