Murphy's Law

Well, as most of you know Cheryl and I were planning our first girls trip ever!! I guess you noticed I said WERE!!!! What are the odds that something would go wrong? We were so looking forward to all we had planned and Cheryl was even excited about the llama hike. She has even been hiking all over the place getting ready. So . . . last Friday I woke up with a headache so I took the usual and went back to bed for a while. When I woke back up I had this terrible pain right in the center of my abdomen. It kind of came and went for most of the day, but never completely went away. Friday night was completely miserable. Kevin really wanted me to cancel my trip to Littlefield, but you know how stubborn I can be, so we compromised and he went with me and I cut my trip short. I kept having the pain off and on all weekend. It was definitely getting better, but definitely not gone. There were still times I would almost double over in pain. So this morning when I got up, Kevin asked me if I was better. I told him yes a little, but the pain was still there. On the one hand I shouldn't complain because I have certainly been eating less as I can't stand it, but I have never been one to go looking for pain. So Kevin finally called the doctor and handed me the phone. He told the nurse I was having chest pains. I was thinking she was probably wondering why we were calling them and not calling 911. Once I cleared up that it was not chest pains, but belly pain, she told me to come in this afternoon. I went in and told my story and symptoms to first the nurse and then the doctor. I told the doctor it hurt right "there" and then asked him what was there. He replied, "Your fingers." Smart aleck! He did some poking around on me and then told me he felt sure it was my gall bladder. I told him that was not good news as my friend and I had a trip planned. He told me I could have it out and be better in two days. I don't really believe him, and even if I was feeling better, I don't think I would be up for a llama hike. I told him that is not what I wanted to hear. Know what he said to that? "Then you shouldn't have come to the doctor!" Like I said, "Smart aleck!" I think Kevin and I set the tone for that kind of comment on our very first visit when we were being our usual selves. I go for an ultrasound Friday afternoon. I may call back tomorrow to see if I can get in sooner. I really hope I don't have to have surgery. He also said it could be an ulcer and he gave me some pills for that and did a couple of tests in his office today. So I guess it is now a wait and see situation. I think I'm going to go back to work.
